Who’s Covered

Employees Covered under the State LTD Plan
(Employee hired on/after January 1, 2006 are automatically enrolled)

Only participants enrolled in The Hartford Disability Insurance Program that was effective January 1, 2006, are eligible for this optional Long-Term Disability feature which enhances the State of Delaware plan.

Your Short-Term and Long-Term Disability Benefits that are provided by The State of Delaware will remain the same, as described below, at no cost to you.  You will only be responsible for paying the premium for the additional 6 2/3% benefit.

  • Short-Term Disability insurance pays a benefit of 75% of your earnings, to a maximum of $2,000 per week. Short Term Disability benefits begin upon completion of the required elimination period and continue through the 182nd calendar day of disability.   • Long-Term Disability insurance pays a benefit of 60% of your earnings, to a maximum of $8,000 per month. Long-Term Disability benefits start on the 183rd calendar day of disability and continue until you are no longer disabled or reach age 65, whichever occurs first.

If you elect to participate in the Optional Long-Term Disability Benefit, your LTD benefit will pay a benefit of 66 2/3% of your pre-disability earnings to a maximum of $8,000. Your pre-disability earnings are your regular monthly pay just prior to your date of disability; not including bonuses, overtime, or other extra compensation. If you become disabled, the amount of your benefits may be reduced by other income you receive.

 

Only participants who elected The Hartford Disability Insurance Program that was effective January 1, 2006 and are no longer in the State Employees’ Disability Pension Plan are eligible for this optional Long Term Disability feature.
