For example, a spouse or dependent child may elect continuation coverage even if you do not elect continuation coverage.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Newborn and Adopted Children<\/strong><br \/>If you give birth or adopt a child while you are on COBRA continuation coverage, you may enroll your new child for COBRA coverage immediately. Your newborn or adopted child will be a &#8220;qualified beneficiary.&#8221; This means that the child will have independent election rights and multiple qualifying event rights.
